Community members are invited to join Columbus city leaders, community activists, and educators in a discussion about young African American men and their interaction with the police force.
The fourth and final 'Hands Up! Don't Shoot!' community forum will take place at Mifflin High School located at 3245 Oak Spring Street on Thursday, February 26, from 6 to 8 pm.
The goal of this series is to set up a Community Review Board that will address how African American men are policed in urban communities.
Organizers say the shooting of Michael Brown, an unarmed 18-year-old in Ferguson, Missouri, and the unrest that exploded afterwards prompted this series of dialogue to find solutions before a similar event happens here in Columbus.
"There's a lot of stress. There's a lot of anxiety around interacting and how do you relate to the police, how the police relates to the community," shared Hands Up! Don't Shoot! co-sponsor, Anthony Penn, CEO of Columbus Area Integrated Health Services.
